Artist Statement

I primarily paint portraits and abstracts works of art, as they evoke the strongest emotions for me and provide a good channel for creative expression. My subjects include songwriters, poets, performers, and social advocates; appearing on abstract backgrounds that often show through the foreground image. That's no mistake. The aperture and “scrappy” style are an expression of the difficult, beautiful, and sometimes tragic experience of understanding, accepting, and revealing our own true self.

Thank you for taking the time to enjoy my work.

Bio

Matt Ferree is a professional artist, learning consultant, leadership coach, and HR facilitator. His somewhat unconventional career path has led him through a number of roles in human resources, social services, HRM technology, and higher education. Since 2005, he’s facilitated high impact workshops, developed curriculum, and managed learning functions at several large public, non-profit, and corporate organizations. While his jobs and fields have changed over time, there are a few clear threads: create, help, and learn.

In 2020, Matt chose to take a sabbatical from corporate HR and started his first business, Matt Ferree Studio, which blends art and leadership development. Authenticity and Belonging have become his subject of focus, in both his artwork and training courses. He’s facilitated workshops across the country and has art on display in Arkansas, California, Colorado, New Mexico, New York, Texas and his home state of Oklahoma.

The Power of Authenticity has become Matt’s subject of focus, believing that we should bring our true and unique identity to the workplace. The outcome is the ability to work together more effectively, increase our job satisfaction and wellness, and create more equitable communities.
